HOT Chess Tournament – Dec. 10th

HOT Chess Academy, in collaboration with The Chess Refinery and The Honor Roll School,
will be holding a Tournament on Saturday, December 10th, 2022.

Where: The Honor Roll School, 4111 Sweetwater Blvd, Sugar Land, TX 77479
Who: Kindergartners – 12th Graders.  Tournament is capped at 100 entries.
Rounds: 5 rounds – Swiss Pairings, Game-25 minutes; delay 5 seconds, USCF-Rated.
First Round 1 will start as close to 9:15 a.m. as possible.
Rounds will start back-to-back.

Lunch (45 minutes long) will be between Rounds 3 and 4 about 12:30 pm.  
Round 5 (last round) starts about 2:15 p.m.
Awards will finish no later than 4:30 pm (we hope).

Round 1 – 9:15 a.m.

Round 2 – 10:15 a.m. (Tentative)
Round 3 – 11:15 a.m. (Tentative)
Lunch – leave when finished with Round 3 and come back before 1:15 p.m.
Round 4 – 1:15 p.m.
Round 5 – 2:15 p.m. (Tentative)
Awards – 3:15 p.m. or possibly earlier
Drinks, food, and snacks will be available for purchase.
Sections: Sections will be divided by rating and will be limited to about 30 players.
Players are expected to know the rules and how to play the game,
but do not have to be expert, or very experienced.
Trophies + Tiebreaks: Trophies to scores above 50% (3 out of 5).
Tie-breaks Used: Modified Median, then Solkoff, then Cumulative, then Opposition Cumulative.
USCF Membership: USCF membership is required.
For players in grades K-12, a special rate is available for $10/year.

Registration: Registration closes on Thursday, December 8th, at 5 p.m.
Registration is $28 through November 20th.

Registration is $33 from November 21st – December 4th.
Registration is $40 from December 5th – 8th.
NO On-Site Registration Allowed.
Registration payment is made through PayPal.
Please note you do not need a funded PayPal account for registration payment. There is an option on the “Checkout” page to pay via credit card as a “guest”.
 Other Notes Please bring your own chess set and clock (if you have one).
If you bring your own clock, please know how to set it properly for G/25
with 5 seconds delay.
Upon arrival, there is NO check-in.  Make sure you and your child know where the cafeteria (waiting area) is located versus the gym (playing hall).  Kids will need to be able to find you, the parent, after each round is over.  Make sure they know exactly where you will be.
Pairings will be made available both in person (posted as a hardcopy) and online.  A link will be sent to you (Friday evening or Saturday morning) via e-mail and/or text message.
