Roberts Elementary Chess Club – 2025 Fall Session

| Who: | Beginner, Novice, and Intermediate/Advanced. Ages 6-11. Unfortunately Kindergartners will not be allowed in the 2025 Fall Session. Spacing is LIMITED – only 16 spots for Beginner, 16 spots for Novice, and 16 spots for Intermediate/Advanced. ***ALL STUDENTS signed up for the Tuesdays/Thursdays Classes will be given an online evaluation PRIOR to the 2025 Fall Session, so that classes will be grouped accordingly.*** |

Tuesdays and Thursdays (Novice and Intermediate/Advanced ONLY) from 3:15 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. (1st Grade – 5th Grade) *OPTIONAL Add-On* – “Tournament Practice Classes” on Tuesdays and Thursdays (Intermediate/Advanced ONLY!) from 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. (1st Grade – 5th Grade) – while there is no formal instruction in these classes, students will be playing simulated tournament games using chess clocks, writing down chess notation, and playing with USCF (United States Chess Federation) rules such as “touch move” and “touch take”. These “Tournament Practice Classes” are designed to get students ready for upcoming tournaments. |
| Levels: | Beginner (Mondays ONLY) – completely new to chess – does not the names of the pieces or how anything moves.
Novice (Tuesdays/Thursdays ONLY) – knows how the pieces move and may/may not know about castling. Intermediate/Advanced (Tuesdays/Thursdays ONLY) – knows castling, development, check, checkmate (and be able to carry out a checkmate), stalemate, and tactics (such as pins, double attacks/forks, and skewers). ***ALL STUDENTS signed up for the Tuesdays/Thursdays Classes will be given an online evaluation PRIOR to the 2025 Fall Session, so that classes will be grouped accordingly.*** *OPTIONAL Add-On* – “Tournament Practice Classes” (Intermediate/Advanced ONLY!) – while there is no formal instruction in these classes, students will be playing simulated tournament games using chess clocks, writing down chess notation, and playing with USCF (United States Chess Federation) rules such as “touch move” and “touch take”. | Coach Kacey will teach the Beginner students. Coach Kacey will teach the Novice students. Coach Justin will teach the Intermediate/Advanced students. The Beginner, Novice, and Intermediate/Advanced students will be taught in separate classrooms. |

| Tuition: | Mondays (Beginner ONLY) $300 for 16-week (16 classes) chess course on Mondays from 3:15 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays (Novice and Intermediate/Advanced ONLY) OR $865 for 15-week (30 classes) chess course on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. |
